What the Attorney-General's Department does
The Attorney-General's Department, is the Australian Government agency responsible for national security. It therefore plays a key role in critical infrastructure protection.
The Critical Infrastructure Protection Branchis responsible for
- developing and coordinating the Australian Government's policy on critical infrastructure protection
- international cooperation on critical infrastructure protection issues, and
- provides general and legal policy advice and coordination within the Attorney-General’s Department on e-security, including its relationship to high-tech crime, and cyber-terrorism.
Emergency Management Australia promotes a national approach to emergency management in Australia through comprehensive measures which embrace prevention, preparedness, response and recovery activities. It is represented on the Critical Infrastructure Advisory Council and provides secretariat support to the Emergency Services Infrastructure Assurance Advisory Group.
The Protective Security Coordination Centre provides the link between critical infrastructure protection arrangements and the National Counter-Terrorism Committee.
