Mass Gatherings Infrastructure Assurance Advisory Group
The Mass Gatherings Infrastructure Assurance Advisory Group assists owners and operators to share information on issues relating to generic threats and vulnerabilities associated with the built environment and public gatherings.
The group has adopted an ‘all hazards’ approach but gives a high priority to risk management in a heightened terrorism environment.
Business plan
The group's business plan notes the three areas of interest to group members are:
- the built environment (including icons)–public buildings, hotels, offices, shopping centres, universities, cultural venues, etc
- event spaces–both permanent (such as sporting fixtures) and non-permanent (such as entertainment precincts), and
- public spaces–promenades, etc.
The business plan further outlines the group's priorities, which are to produce:
- clear government–business communication protocols
- a counter-terrorism toolkit based on best practice standards for business
- a clearer legal environment
- a professional private security industry–including national accreditation and training
- planned counter terrorism drills to improve readiness, and
- higher business community awareness of counter-terrorism strategies.
